With an Ace and a natural trump trick plus a likely heart trick, I think I’d sooner have the money off 5D here. After 2 rounds of spades, East can cash a trump and get the bad news before leading a club but South can ruff that and punch declarer again making a spade 2trumps and a heart as a minimum. Mind you, if 5S X had made, it shows what I don’t know.

And since what you claim to not know, materially affects all of us also, and is often the reason all of the same people continue to love this fascinating game we try and play.
No doubt, after the play on this hand, North surely asked his partner an important query,
“If you would have had a sixth diamond, would you have doubled 5 diamonds or, if not, instead of bidding only 5 spades, possibly jumped to a spade slam”?
