HI Bobby,
The play might also work if dummy had (say) DJ103 and declarer had the DA alone. Difficult to blame East in that situation but imagine South had a club more, DA alone so has absolutely no real chance except for East thinking he has DAx. Yet another example of a play that would be very hard to find at the table if you’ve not seen it before.
Regards,
Iain
Sorry, DA10 above, not Ax – although that might work too.
Dear Bobby,
Thank you for acknowledging, if only once, that sometimes people overbid.
Bob Lipton
Hi Iain,
And why is it, when sad looking contracts are made surreptitiously, it then feels like manna from heaven? Likely since sometimes, we hope, when events look the worst, but everything turns out OK, we feel the happiest.
BTW, methinks your second post, will occur even more likely than the legitimate way.
Probably since when we are on the receiving end instead (perish the thought!) it always feels the worst, but then to congratulate your opponent, (easier said then done) will likely win you both respect and a friend for life, a commodity none of us have enough.
Hi Bob,
Oh, come on Bob, we all know that only a relatively few of us overbid, but rather are noted for always, at the very least, having (instead of only wishing) that we had another key card (especially an extra trump), but why is it when we go set, that our partners, (at least up to then) tend to chastise us, instead of doing what we do with them, (CONSOLE).
How does that song go, “That will be the day, until I die”.
