Hi Everyone,
Ever once a simple hand (at least to your brand), so relax and enjoy others who are
enjoying, calling, explaining, and ruling the roost.
Hi Bobby,
The play is simple but what happened to the bidding in the other room? If I’d been bidding this hand in 1976 or so, I’d have expected the following (and this is real kitchen bridge standard):
1N (12-14)
3H (Game forcing, choice of games, 5+ hearts and possibly slam interest)
3S (if agreeing hearts and showing SA rather than showing 4S)
4D (cue-bid, slam interest)
5C (hand couldn’t be better really)
6H
Of course today’s methods are far superior but even then, playing simple stuff, 1N (12-14) – 2D – 2H – 3D (GF and probing) 3H (principle of fast arrival) 4D 4S (worth a try if partner cue-bids – the hand couldn’t be better and implying a C control) 6H.
All a bit curious. How would you have bid it in your Aces days?
Regards,
Iain
Hi Iain,
Playing strong club and 4 card majors: East dealer and only NS bidding, S. 1S, N 2H, 3H, 4D,4S,5D,6C,6H,P. complete with grand slam ambitions but settling for less.
Even though (and, not much doubt, slam bidding particularly, has improved) it still
remains with the quality of the bidders as to the results obtained and like the many
sports, now glorified, the feel in bridge is worth about the same as the athleticism and other physical qualities apparent in sports. While sports is body control, bridge casts it rather, to the mind.
