Hi Bobby,

Imagine North opens a bent 2N, South uses 5-card Stayman, gets 3S but settles for 3N. What does poor East lead? NS got the contract upside down here which helped the defence.

Regards,

Iain

And the quote is from Macbeth

Hi Iain,

Trust the law of averages to even out that type of luck, particularly over a lifetime. Doesn’t always feel that way, but usually only by “losers”. Macbeth knew her ladies!

Regarding play to trick one above, doesn’t if feel right to duck the heart, (if the deuce is led), in dummy?

Hi Bobby,

Absolutely holding H98 as party of my assets. Seriously though a hand like North’s really wants to be declarer here so the defence can’t see so readily what is happening. Tony Forrester’s Bol’s Bridge Tip was “use the power of the closed hand”.

Regards,

Iain

Hi again Iain,

It wouldn’t be terribly surprising if Mrs. Guggenheim would lead the king of clubs in order to immediately secure a likely club trick.

However, when she sought suit to describe, to one of her erstwhile partners, the learned advantage she had been taught by one of the best bridge teachers around, somewhat tipped the scales of her judgment as to what might be called, in her company, the showing off of her superior knowledge, might just be a small roadblock
on her bridge teachers license.
