Hi Bobby,

I think I’d miss this, especially at pairs, possibly worried that West had HQx and that South would see the ruff coming so might bash down the HK. Spare a thought for Jim2 here – if he found this, then South would have xxx J9xxx Jxx QJ or maybe xxx J9xxx xx Axx. In either event, partner is likely to give you a hard stare as a minimum, even if declarer were bringing home the bacon.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

Yes, your analysis, as usual, is indeed flawless, but you are missing an emotional catch to which, all of us should remain true.

Bridge is a game to which all players are alike in searching for perfection, after the final contract is set (if you will excuse the word) so I will substitute arrived at. Then the play and defense takes over for the 2nd stage to which we arrive at the result.

Presto and no doubt your final result always arrives with perfection, allowing you (should be) all the privileges the biggest winner should accrue. In the next life, the oversight that you encountered will have been corrected, at least I hope so, and I shall always be working for inclusion, in spite of so many petty frauds who campaign for present handling and regard you as everyone’s Mr “Feel Good”, but prefer you return as either a bridge teacher and/or, writer.

Smartly, luckily or not, there will be a successful side (making) against an unsuccessful
one, not. No doubt revealing, but only for keep score necessities, not the feeling to
which we should cater, but rather a phony substitute for “Name that emotion”.

Playing correctly is always the goal and to that, Jim2 has always before and no doubt to
continue his magic if and when, he can convince his partners what emotion needs to
rule.

The above no doubt reigns and will forever be (or should) everyone’s guide. BTW, did I get your name right?

Hi Jim2,

Sorry, I must have forgotten your name.

Hi Bobby,

Thanks for that and thought-provoking and entertaining reply as ever.
