Hi Bobby,

I’d bid 1H n BWTA but Jim2 would get 3D if he did and a likely D stack over the opening bidder. If he passed of course, pard would be something like a 4-3-3-3 or 4-3-4-2 19 count and the auction would die in 1D. What he’d need here is an over-enthusiastic opponent in the pass out seat but you can’t trust people here.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

Yes, an entertaining hand to write up, tempting the players to guess their way to
a reasonable result. No doubt, both success and likely trouble, may abound for either
pair, but this one has a cloudy outcome for either side, often depending on the experience
of each, once the overall bidding evolves.

Then, of course, and immediately after the opening lead has been made, the playing becomes supreme, allowing all the players a stiff dose of necessary good judgment by
both sides in order to get the hoped for result. Perhaps the final thoughts involving
the various choices available to both the declarer and the defense will welcome a difficult
decision, but, and no doubt, whatever is later reviewed, will represent just how challenging
our superb competition has, like almost always, wrought.
