What if East ducks the first round of hearts?

A V Ramana RaoDecember 6th, 2024 at 11:36 am

Hi Jim2
Hope our host approves:
What did east discard on second club? If it is a heart, south can cash remaining diamond honour and spade A before leading heart J. East must duck else south has nine tricks. ( Two spades, three hearts and two in each minor) . South continues heart to K in dummy. East can win but it is immaterial whether he cashes spade K or not and leads a spade. East is thrown in in with fifth spade for stepping stone to dummy’s stranded heart winner. And if east discards spade on second club, south can cash remaining diamond honour and lead J of hearts. What east does becomes irrelevant as EW are restricted to three spades and one heart.

Please read last line as three spades and one heart or two spades and two hearts

Hi AV, or maybe just A for a nickname,

Since I want to congratulate you for your many splendid analysis, I do so, comfortable in its credibility.

But, to actually follow through while explaining it, I am staking your overwhelming positive reputation as my
principle reason for so doing.

In any event, for any non-believer to challenge either one of us, will take either a monstrous self-hater or someone ready to spend his next hours or weeks in never-never land.

Finally, thanks for your herculean effort and such, but please everyone, don’t be late for any of your appointments next week because of it.
