In response to Count Your Tricks, I notice Barry didn’t offer a way to get to 6C or suggest it was ironclad which is good because if the AS sits wrong, I don’t see how you are making it. Lefty may be a pretty solid favourite to hold the missing ace based on his opening bid, but opening second seat with 11 points and a heart suit led by KOJ(T)x is not unheard of. And the three NT response shows a stopper, not necessarily the ace.
That is beside the point here. I don’t really see how you get to 6C after 3H. And I’d feel a lot better about 6C if partner had a singleton heart, but maybe he’d start with a 2H cue bid in that case?
Thoughts? How would you bid this hand?
Cheers!

Hi Jeff,
2H won’t work as it is probably Michaels. My worry would be partner ha inh (say) QJx x Kx AKQJxxx or similar when 3N is cold but 6C has unavoidable S losers. I don’t think pard has to have the SA or SK here.

If I bid to 6C on that hand, the AS would be onside but the opening bidder would have seven hearts and, holding also the AQ or AJ of spades, judged his hand too good to preempt in second seat facing an unpassed hand. Down 2.

Thanks, guys. Like I said, I don’t really see how you get to 6C or why partner would necessarily think it was a good landing spot holding two small hearts. And, even if you make all the right assumptions about partners hand and get to 6C, it can still go very wrong. Either or your scenarios or, maybe, something as simple as rightie holds four to the jack of clubs and that along with the AS sinks your contact.
