Hi Barry
A belated reflection : perhaps south should win first spade and later strip squeeze east else he would go down. Suppose he wins second spade and leads a diamond. West can infer that south doesn’t have diamond A else the play makes no sense, and also continuing spades do not appeal. So west shifts to heart J and south doesn’t have any play. If he plays Q, east wins and returns nine of hearts. If dummy wins , south goes down straightaway as EW win three hearts and two diamonds and if he ducks,
East reverts to hearts. And if dummy plays small on heart J west continues heart and if dummy wins A, EW collect last four tricks
But if south wins first spade and leads a diamond, west rises ( else no problem) and leads spade. South can win and run winners to reach five card position ( after two spades one diamond and five clubs). East must retain two hearts else it would not be difficult to work out to drop K, A of diamonds and hence only two spades and now he can be thrown in with diamond
Regards
