HI Bobby,
Nice to see your reply to agony aunt; how many players bid 2D as an automatic relay nowadays, thus completely scuppering the ability to have an intelligent exchange of information The absurdity occurs if you look at a sequence like 2C 2D 2H 2S (assuming 2H isn’t Kokish). If the 2D bidder could have J10xxx xx xxx Jxx or KQ10xxx xx Ax Jxx, for example, the potential for wheels to come off is immense. Having said that I could see there might be a case for playing (something like) 2H as a balanced positive or abject dross, 2D to be any other positive and other bids to be limited (say 3-6 pts and a 6 card suit, like a very weak 2) but shapely with perhaps 2N being a flat 3-6 count although that will get 3N wrong sided in occasion.
Are there such artificial schemes out there that you think are worthwhile or is KUSS a better idea?
Regards,
Iain
Hi Iain,
First, I prefer a KISS to all forms of Cuss (whether followed by ing or not). However, my suggestion is always if possible, to keep it as simple as possible.
Many who write in, do not take bridge as seriously as you and I, revealing only a casual interest, in the answer of his or her question, and often, even immediately, both the answer and then soon followed by the question as well is forgotten.
However, as we on this site suspect, the language of bridge takes on all sorts of personalities and mindsets, causing the designated “teacher” a wide latitude of sincerity.
And so it goes, and doubtfully ever to pass muster a successful way to respond.
