Many thanks for your always continued loyalty and support, especially after our failing miserably to live up to expectations.
Computers and the current problems which arise make me feel like a novice bridge player, learning that I can trump an opponents ace, when out of a suit and actually win the trick, but only and until, the process on the internet is back up and working.

At least to me the bidding should go: South 1 club, North 1 heart, South 1 spade, North 2NT (instead with 1NT possible but very conservative) 3 hearts by South (checkback for partner having a 5 card suit), North 4 hearts.
Declarer (with this very favorable defensive layout) should take 11 tricks and to take less than 10 is indeed strange.
If asked about the bidding the specific card in North’s hand which convinces me to bid 2NT instead of only one is the 9 of hearts which often allows that suit (when distributed fairly normal around the table) to offer more potential for a source of ticks. It doesn’t on this hand, but it could on others.
The failure of South to bid 3 hearts indicates the need of the importance to checkback for alternate contracts rather than to pass 2NT or worse, continue on to 3NT, without properly describing all necessary features with one’s hand.
That problem can easily be resolved if a player is willing to open his bridge mind and understand that the bidding is every bit as important (and likely more so, as the play). South has already shown fewer than 4 hearts with his 1 spade rebid.
Yes, it can be right to pass 2NT with South’s hand, but in spite of the minimum hcp holding, it is always necessary, whenever possible, to completely describe one’s hand and this hand is the poster boy for that caveat.
