Question 1 Would you open this hand? If so, what bid?
Question 2 Assuming you’ve passed initially, and it goes:
LHO 1D
Pard Pass
RHO 1H
Do you now enter the auction? If so what call best helps Partner?1S overcall?
Double? : both black suits
2H?…Michaels? Spades and a minor.
Question 3: Suppose North actually chose to double over 1H and East jumped to 4H. As South you hold:
A84 Q J8753 AQJ9. What action now?

Interesting question. I’ll throw in my two cents before the better players chime in.
Fortune favors the brave, but I’m not brave enough to open that hand so I would pass. At my second turn, I would have plunked for 1S. After the double and 4H pre-empt….I honestly don’t know what I would do.
I think if partner had bid 1S, I’d bid 4S and see what happens but after the double, I don’t really have any reason to expect partner to have more than four spades so I would probably end up subsiding. Or maybe I’d not want to surrender and I’d hold my breath and bid 4S. I don’t see myself going for clubs even after the double (which may argue for 1S rather than double).

I think I’d bid 2H if I passed initially (which I think is right, but I’m bidding with CA not CK) to emphasise I’ve got as much as I could possibly have with both black suits. Partner should then get the message with his double fit and bid 4S, maybe even 5 if pushed..

Sorry for the delay, but I’ll blame it on March Madness.
First, I would pass originally, with the main reason so little defense in case it becomes a contested bidding battle.
Second, although possibly either double or 2 hearts is a better description (the second time around), I would also bid one spade and risk losing a possible club part score contract, in return to hoping make it a little tougher for those wily opponents once the bidding gets higher.
Yes, the likely result when partner sings out 4 spades at his next turn will likely result in a heavenly final contract, probably doubled by the unlucky opponents.
Nothing succeeds like success, especially when we see all 26 of our assets before deciding.
In any event, right before I head out to dreamland, I wish a good night to all of us.
