Hi Bobby,

Given East’s C4 at T1, he must have singleton club 4, Q4 or 43 or 42. Hence West can cash the second club but then wouldn’t have found the coup.

Regards,

Iain

Hi bobby,

Excellent play by the defense.. If West starts with two clubs, South can simply play the odds and lead a third spade (does anything look better?) and end play East. The only thing I wonder about is whether the AC asked East to drop an honor if he had one, I guess not in their system or he would have done so….or was he also seeing very deeply and wanted to discourage the second club? Either way, very impressive.

As fun as it is to declare, I always loved defense and one of fondest bridge memories is of a partner where we could never get on the same page bidding, but on defense, it was like we could read each other’s minds. To the point where someone once accused us of cheating. This was an on-line game and my incredulous replay was “Cheating? Have you seen us BID???”
