Hi Bobby,

Should East smell a rat here when this diamond play occurs? After all if declarer has (say) DA109xx he certainly won’t play the suit that way and with Axxxx it seems clumsy, especially at IMPs. I can’t help feeling that if Jim2 found this, West or even East might have DQ alone.

I looked up the quote in more detail:

(From “Much Ado about Nothing”)

Balthasar:
Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more,
Men were deceivers ever,
One foot in sea, and one on shore,
To one thing constant never.
Then sigh not so, but let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
Into hey nonny nonny.

Regards,

Iain

Iain Climie –

Obi-jim2 has taught you well! My defenders never fail to stumble/bumble into brilliancies.

The way I would play it would be to lead to KS and then lead to KD.

East holding AD singleton would kill the contract anyway.

Meanwhile, the line gains if East holds QD singleton, or West holds any AD doubleton (as here!).

Hi Jim2,

Thanks and I take it you celebrate May 4th each year (I’m the same). Not exactly Shakespeare (although Ian Doescher did turn summaries of the Star Wars plots into Shakespearean prose, iambic pentameters and all I believe) but still great fun.

Hi Iain,

Thanks for your bridge views to which we see you both as a romantic for women and much compassion for our always lovable, Jim2.

Also, while digesting Shakespeare’s entire quote, the word money would often rhyme and, as with reality, usually in the picture, but strangely vacant, subjecting the discussion instead to nonny, nonny.

Hi Jim2,

Some people are destined to stay, others to roam. You were born to teach, but hey, why play
but, heavens above, instead preach.

Hi again Iain,

Why does the UK claim the birthplace of Shakespeare when all Americans know he was born in Kansas with the idea of flying “Over the Rainbow” to the Emerald City?

Or is everyone in need of Baum?

Iain ClimieJuly 15th, 2022 at 4:40 pm

Hi Bobby,

Makes a change from the number of people trying to claim someone else wrote the plays, to be fair.

Hi Iain,

So sad that even though many years, decades and even centuries have passed and still the supposed competition for entitlement, still rages.

It isn’t even as if there are royalties which might be payable?

Hi Iain,

Of course that, but proving that EGO (the desire to be thought the best ever), at least in the male world, is the most treasured desire, while likely exchanging compelling great looks matching up with overall talent, for the females.
