Hi Bobby,

Poor South – or was he? West can be placed with the CK and East probably has the HA. If East has the SQ, necessary for the finesse to work, can’t South just play SK, SA and SJ chucking a club from table as a scissors coup if the SQ doesn’t appear from West?

Not so clever if West has the HA to be fair and I suppose the line could walk into a second diamond play with the D3-2 and then a ruff which really would be embarrassing.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

Well expressed, both in substance and in fact, but shall we say, “the
proof is in the pudding”. and declarer fell, “hook, line, and stinker”.

When and if these anomalies occur, it often becomes a declaration of a mental bridge war, not quickly settled, especially if these partnership foes both attend the same bridge club or attend the same larger tournaments.

Result, admiration or bad bridge blood, should be the former, but sadly is usually the other and, instead, if occurring at the “money bridge table”, then bad bridge blood can simply turn to “bloody”.
