One really minor point, involves if the defenders win the first diamond and fail to attack hearts. For example, they lead a second club.

In such cases, declarer should turn to trumps before the second diamond.

That is, if declarer retains the full tempo advantage, then preventing a ruff by drawing trump ensures the contract.

Hi Jim2,

Not such a minor point since it reminds me long ago of a musical promotion of the (at the time) Sammy Kay orchestra, “Swing and Sway with Sammy Kay”. Yes, I know this occurred. before most of you were born.

As long as the opponents do not switch to a heart (on this hand, possibly to be the setting trick) then declarer can switch back to the business of first drawing trump and thus create for him a basic risk-free environment.

Since perfection is both your motto and your creed, we all appreciate the necessity of learning that from you.
