Hi Dear Mr Wolff
Perhaps west’s cover of W of clubs is not warranted. West knows that declarer started singleton spade and almost certainly eight carded heart and followed to diamond accounting for ten cards. If he is left with Qx clubs and a diamond , not covering could result in an OT ( vulnerable of course meaning another 200 points) and covering would result in ten tricks for declarer. But if he is left with Q of clubs and xx of diamonds, not covering would set the contract. The economics work in favour of not covering. But perhaps the contract should not have been doubled when west definitely should not cover
Regards
Hi everyone,
My question could be, asking today’s hand to be given a name.
Making my entry “The art of the defense, tiptoeing through the tulips”
Hi AVRR,
Methinks we had simultaneously submitted comments, but I wholeheartedly agree against the reopening by East with a TO double.
Sure it could work, but the result could often and more likely end IMO, with one of those well healed opponents redoubling for no doubt, either an enormous result by contract making plus an overtick or a 4+ trick set for EW.
