Hi, Bobby.

I have not written for a long time. In fact, due to meds, I have had to give up the game. I do follow closely on your site and enjoy it very much.

But, I had to write on this. It seems that once the SK held, the only logical lead is a Diamond. With no side entries, declarer must take them and lead to your top honors. If partner has anything in heart and clubs, 5 tricks is certain.

Is there any reason to do anything else?

Hi Ken,

Seems reasonable except partner’s encouraging 3 is a bit strange – what was that for? After all, if you’ve got SKQJ(x) you’ll surely lead another top honour anyway. If East did hold (say) J10xx(x) then another top spade is fine.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Ken & Iain,

First, welcome back Ken and sincerely wish your love for both our site and your natural love of the game, you feel well enough to continue enjoying our always compelling, though very challenging, game.

No doubt East felt his 4 card holding was strong enough to give a positive signal, since the bidding at the other table screamed out a decided negative to such a thought and, no wonder, even before the opening lead.

Hi again Ken,

Sorry, I should have added best wishes for coping with the medical condition(s). Although I don’t enjoy online rather than F2F, the odd bit of BBO against robots can pass the time while they do a 4 deal challenge to get the highest net score you can on 4 hands – might be worth the odd try and you’re given a position against the other few thousand who’ve played them.

Regards,

Iain
