Hi Bobby,

On Fatal Inference’s comment about the spurious question on the trump queen, I hope if I’d been the questioner’s partner I’d have had a quiet word with him / her. Yes you could ask for a load of details at the end but unless partner is going to take UI from a failure to ask, it seems rather dodgy t me ethically.

As Reese said on a different topic, though, if you get misled by a hesitation from an opponent without a reason to do so, just make a mental note not to get caught that way again.

Regards,

Iain

Hi Iain,

When one enters the discussion about various intelligent questions to ask a known authority on how to bid, declare, defend or read what one writes at bridge, it is wise to know his reputation before one should necessarily follow his/her advice.

However, with what I more than strongly suspect in bridge, when the subject becomes ethics and it’s far reaching effect, perhaps Reese should not be first choice. but with the above paragraph, he definitely is. No offense intended, but instead that truism could/should be
acknowledged.

Hi Bobby,

Fair point there. I played against Boris Schapiro once who was very gentlemany having fixed us but never against JTR. I heard a few stories about him indirectly and he seems to have been a bit odd in some ways but only ever nodded hello once. I wonder if Truscott’s book on 1965’s events can now be bought in the UK. It was barred on legal grounds for years.

Regards

Iain
