Hi Bobby,

Interesting hand (don;t grab T1 again!) but Lucretius was well ahead f his time. A more moden comment also applies “Sports and games don;t build character – they reveal it”. Mind yu, I’ve heard the same said about alcoholic drinks.

Regards,

Iain

I always find that timing is the toughest part of declarer play.

Hi Iain,

As all sports lovers in the USA are now looking forward to what they call, “March Madness” an intense American KO basketball tournament to determine the collegiate
champion for 2024, one game loss and they are gone, possibly more than any other sporting event, do tempers flare and physical fights break out. Yes, that episode does make yours and Lucretius’ quotes, both look like prophets.

And, as to alcoholic drinks, perhaps bolder is a slightly better word than reveal, to describe it.

Hi Bob,

How about instead, just making them, since all one has to do, is wear his or her watch.

A reminder of Rudyard Kipling’s great effort, “If”, the sentence something like, “if you can keep your head, while people all about you, are losing theirs”.

Please forgive my intrusion, especially since I will definitely agree with you about “correct timing”, seemingly present in almost every tough declarer decision, as it appears also to be, in decisions made, during every long life, most people are blessed to live.
