What should “Little John” actually bid with the provided hand?
Partner cannot hold a spade suit on the bidding, so would “Double” promise only diamonds? Would 3C have any meaning? Would 2N show the minors?
So, what would you bid? Pass?
Hi Jim2,
I could hem and haw, which would likely be most experienced player’s chosen reaction.
Our presentation of such an unusual event, at least to me, would be a psychic opening by my LHO, but probably rather, only all three others, bidding on minimum values.
Double, unless earlier discussed as conventional, should be penalty, which certainly would be my choice, if only to keep a presumed psychic (opener) from keeping my side out of a possible laydown game (if so, 3NT).
Finally a chance to later bellow out, to all who could hear, “I don’t know what is going on, but I’ve decided to find out, rather than meekly go quiet”.
With your luck, the player who psyched, would be your partner.
