Hi Barry,
On a scale of 0 to 10, how tempted would you be to double 4S with the East hand here? Obviously the flip ide is that it will tip declarer off to the trump break. Perhaps the quality (or lack of it) of partner’s WJOs is crucial here.
Regards,
Iain
Hi Iain,
Although my name is not Barry, and, of course, if you do not mind my interjection (how’s that for plausible crashing the party or, more to the point, your interesting observation?),
Tempted yes, but IMO not tied closely to what a weak jump overcall might turn out to be,
(likely somewhat random, and not necessarily within a known standard) but rather a sound bite on what the opponents may think is his choice with dealing with big or better put, king- size, actions.
Closing into my view of whether to double or not, is what I hope to learn about that particular partnership (the player who doubled or the same one who did not) thus concentrating on the future, when we may meet up again. However, at my age, I would love to think it could make a difference, but whom am I kidding?
HI Bobby,
Thanks for that and good to hear from you. Not running the column clearly doesn’t stop you chipping in and I’m delighted you’re doign so.
Redgards,
Iain
Hi Iain,
“Damned be him, who has given up his Prince Albert, without a struggle”. That
particular Prince may sometimes get lonely, if not forlornly.
Miss all you guys and likely, in the wings, ladies, but not without shouting from the rafters, ” With Barry & company, all of you are in magnificent hands, at least a game force”.
