Hi Barry.
On BWTA I’m not so sure about the advice at rubber bridge when vulnerable, especially if the opponents are not. If you’ve got game and 60 against NV opponents you are very long odds on to win the rubber. Despite this, some players will masochistically take saves to prolong a rubber which they are likely to lose anyway just based on run of the cards. How much rubber bridge gets paid though nowadays? Non-duplicate is more likely to be Chicago I would have thought although presumably there are still plenty of social games out there.
Regards,
Iain
Hi Iain,
Yes, and assuming you missed an l in spelling played, I’m worrying about the future for our great game. To only say how many people would feel critically hurt, as well as ashamed,
to not manufacture whatever possible, to avoid such a critical all things loss, would be a decided underbid.
As to today’s hand, declarer committed a huge no, no when his mind neglected telling him what likely happened, when the defense especially took a step to the right at trick two, to which a thinking declarer needs to acquaint his mind with what to expect. Merely getting in that habit is worth its price in not only refusing to er, but to join the other players at the table in always concentrating on the game, instead of what’s for dinner or whatever.
