Once again, 3N makes when 4S falls over. Despite the good trumps, the extra points provide a guard against the vagaries of many distributions, especially if West leads a club. 4-4 fits are often good news but not today.

PS Yes, a H to the K and a club back at T1 should beat 3N but what is West likely to lead here?

Hi Iain,
Any partnership, good enough to lead a heart should be required to play a NS capable of then rising with the ace of hearts and then leading a diamond to the eight (as well as guess to play the queen later when a low heart comes back after another low heart lead coming back to the opening leader). Only proving that some partnerships thrive by only always guessing either red suits or black and thus thriving to be specialists instead of just random.
Perhaps in years to come we can look forward to such antics, but, for now, only dream.
I say dream, you say nightmare!

FYI — this convention was invented by BOBBY GOLDMAN, not by Grant Baze, who always denies inventing it. Back then, it was called GOLDMAN over STAYMAN, No one knows how it got its name changhed — but heck, Stayman did not invent Stayman — Stayman just wrote it up first.

Hi Steve,
Yes, basically George Rapee either invented it, popularized
it, and/or caused most top partnerships to include it, one way or the other.

Hi Still,
And I am not the host, only a constant meddler, who appreciates
still belonging and secretly hopes
for all cheaters to not only disappear, but instead, campaign for stiffer penalties, allowing a resurgence, for our otherwise greatest of all competitive, table games.
