OMG!!!

I second jim2s’ OMG – at last, an answer to his perennial lament: “If only there were a bid to show five hearts and four spades…” 😀

I kind of wonder here though if South maybe took his tricks in the wrong order. It might have been better to not open diamonds right away retaining the KD for transportation later and also delaying the moment when the board is reduced to only trumps. The worthy opposition cannot open the suit themselves so it seems safe enough to wait.

Try the effect of giving up a club at trick two. Now, if West returns a second spade and East takes his AJ and leads the fourth spade, South can again insert a small heart and if West overtrumps, he seems to be endplayed, even the 3H allows a low heart from the board and it looks like South gets home.

There may be another defense I am too tired to see right now, but it is at least interesting to me.

Cheers,

Jeff

Maybe immediately give up a club at trick two.

When I proofread, I thought I had already mentioned giving up a club at trick two, but couldn’t find it. I didn’t look under my signature. I was REALLY tired lol

HI Jeff,

It is in there twice. Very interesting though.
