Hi Bobby…

A fun hand!

I was able to see declarer’s winning line – end up in dummy and play diamonds into E’s 9 & 6 of trump, but missed the winning defensive line.

I have a question about how W puzzles out that winning play of a club at trick 2…

Does W look at the dummy after winning the first heart and see a) the two low trump, so all the high trump must be in dummy, b) the hearts won’t be of any use, and c) if E has the king and one other diamond, S will need to get back to the dummy after driving the king out, so the two high clubs in dummy are needed to get S back up to the diamonds and therefore, although W can’t know absolutely playing on clubs will work, it’s W’s best bet to set the hand?
