Hi Everyone,
There are, no doubt, good reasons for habits developed by all players, either experienced or wanting to become, interested, but generally having to do with proper ethics by the home team for the bridge club or the ACBL, but both that and the ability to become better from the player himself or herself.
Therefore the time for both difficult and deliberate thinking often rises, after the bidding has taken place, the contract is (if you will excuse me) set (or possibly better said, reached), the opening lead made, the dummy exposed and the 3rd seat player awaiting the declarers play or call to dummy to which card to play.
Therein is the known protocol to which the partner of the opening leader needs to know, if he hasn’t already (and experience will help that player get ready quicker).
By then following suit should follow, but not without probably the time wherein he
has obtained a bettr “feel” for the whole hand, which eventually will subtract the time it takes to start improving and usually step up the time requirements for getting it done.
However, for the relative newcomers to the game, they will have to see, as time passes, how that moment (before third seat plays to trick #1) is often the equalizer, allowing, over time, that player to get much more perceptive to the wide
range of thoughts it will take for him or her to begin to see what he or she needs to see and therefore direct his or her mind to the task ahead.
Finally, the end results will vary from person to person, but the process should always be the same. Thanks for listening (of course, if you still are?)
