Hi Bobby,
If EW are playing attitude leads as you suggest, is West going to lead the S3 which really screams for a spade back e.g. from an initial holding (not here) of KJ9xx or AKxxx then the lowest card is clear. With SQ1063 I’d happily lead the S6 but with Q1083 it is tricky – the 8 really doesn’t do the suit justice. To what extent are such leads used now; I used to play them in the late 1970s but they seem to have gone out of fashion.
Regards,
Iain
Hi Iain,
While simply attitude leads can work well, I probably feel the same as you, nothing special, but if that shoe fits both players in a high level partnership, go for it!
However, my preference generally just runs to whatever my expert partner prefers, until either I or my pard, feel strongly that we should experiment with
his new favorite. IOW, I have no real preference, but only wish whatever we settle with, works as well as it should.
Methinks that simply fourth best wins the day as the overall front runner, with
keeping in mind, the different checks and balances, to add or stray, always open
for either of us, if we become convinced partner will not be disadvantaged more often than them. Allowing the person across from me to give himself the opportunity before me, to fall on his own sword. Only kidding, at least I hope I am.
