If south plays for only two trumps with west, perhaps he can pitch a diamond on third high spade after drawing two rounds of trump. When west discards, declarer can lead club . West wins and now he has to either open up diamonds or provide a ruff and sluff as south can let another diamond go. The presence of J of clubs makes the difference without which , the column line would be appealing
