If North decides to protect his tenaces with a call of 6N, East must find a heart lead to make declarer work.

7C is also an interesting contract.

Hi Jim2,

If 7C is by N then East may try a “safe” club lead. West will not be a happy bunny.

Iain

In 6N/N, East will have a tough choice for the opening lead. Assuming they find the safe lead of a heart, the contract suffers from the same problem as 6S, namely how to play the spade suit for no losers. I cannot see anything better than relying on statistics and play for the drop

Is there a sensible way to get to 7C over South’s pre-empt?

Hi Mircea,

I agree but there is an extra change in 6N to maintain options – play for the drop in spades and chuck East in io he has SQxx. That keeps options and also avoids having to make a decision if West were to win with SQx and shove a diamond through.

Iain
