Hi Dear Mr Wolff
Renewed wishes to you, Judy and all friends on this site for “A Merrry Christmas and A Very Happy New Year”
Though on the defensive slip, south prevailed but should have realised that for any chance for the contract, east should hold Club K and perhaps south could have improved his chances by playing two round of trumps ending in dummy and leading a low heart and playing nine from hand (If West held Q of hearts , south has one more chance of finesse and if east inserts ten, south wins A and has twelve tricks. ) In case West wins south still prevails if West also has Q of hearts or if the suit breaks even if West finds the club return after winning heart and in case he returns a red suit, the double squeeze operates . But all this would be hypothetical as nine of hearts wins and club finesse lands the slam
Regards

Hi Patrick,

At least this long ago designated “Holiday Season” (for many) has allowed the whole world to expand its horizons, forgetting petty differences (racism, different religions, indigenous customs and laws, not to mention the worst, alternate bridge bidding and signalling systems).

However, as your above heartfelt post has proved, love can be shared, by all who desire it and, no doubt, resonates palpable great respect.

Perhaps, and in the future, our great game can be the coupling vehicle, and if so, the whole wide world will thrive with intelligent worthwhile mind competition, based on Partnership Coordination, Active Ethics, and a strong dose of Life’s Logic.

As the song goes, “I can dream, can’t I”, starting by wishing you a healthy, safe 2021 and much thanks for the joy you always create.

Hi AVRR,

My guess is that today’s hand has several alternate lines of play, based on very close percentage chances for success.

Of course your suggestion will be one of them, but as Jim2’s phrase of “my head hurts” while possibly a cop-out for having to think it through, (complete with percentage tables handy), is still valid as a decent excuse for “let others do the arithmatical wrestling”.

However, as a prelude to dipping one of my big toes in the water, the original holding of ten and another heart (including the other heart being the queen, with, and of course, the club king being offside and then having to face the quizzical
look of my new enemy, turned vicious, partner.

Hi Dear Mr Wolff
If West holds both Q, Ten of hearts alongwith club K, and his known diamond holding perhaps he is squeezed without count on the run of trumps

Hi AVRR,

Couldn’t he have discarded down to the singleton club king?

However, I haven’t checked it out, so if not, I apologize.

Hi again AVRR,

Thanks mightily for the Xmas wishes and, of course, the same to you and your family.

Pandemics seem to be about the worst thing to happen, second only to World War, and then might come the absence of FtoF bridge (without the cheating).

At least to me, although I tend to be an optimistic dreamer, under consideration, all of the bad choices above are preventable, if only both stern World leadership with intelligent full cooperation among all involved people, is connected to all of them.
