Hi Bobby,
Found it from yesterday –

Hi Iain,
Thanks for allowing me a chance to get to learn about the history behind Mr. Philip
Grosvenor and his, shall we say, strange habit.
However, there seemed to be a what we could call strange quirk, in his behavior, since, in fact, he seemed to almost deny that he ever intended making, what we have learned to call, a Grosvenor Why, simply, perhaps his plays were conceived in basic lack of knowledge of the bare basics in suit combinations, to which a bridge psychiatrist (or should I instead say, a psychiatrist who plays bridge) may testify.
Yes a very strange weakness for such an otherwise intelligent persona, but still the evidence appears to be there, if, for no other reason but, by how he reacted to the aftermath of his plays.
In any event, much thanks for allowing me to learn about our always spectacular history and without your much needed help, I would have been left, in the dark to what must have been a totally spectacular career in challenging otherwise normal people to go, (shall we say) totally BERSERK.
Thanks Iain. I will admit it had me going until I got to the manner of his untimely death – ruled a suicide! I’ll also admit I was just skimming it so maybe I should have caught on sooner. 🙂
Hi Jeff,
Thanks for that but the dreaded coup or gambit does occur alarmingly often at the table by accident usually, more than design. Matters are never helped when partner says something “helpful” to the victim of course and some are just unlucky – if you have Qxx opposite 10xx in a suit when LHO leads 4th highest against 1N 3N you’ll play the pwrcentages, duck and find RHO with Jx(x). The real gambit is more nefarious…
Regards
Iain
