Hi Bobby,
Nicely done and I suppose the point is that West with 5S and an ace probably wouldn’t pass on the first round while East with 4225 would bid 1S rather than doubling. I don’t think I’d have been that brave at the table mind you but couldn’t East have an 18 count with 4324 here? West should surely raise spades earler though with that lot. 3S after pard bids 1S perhaps as they’ve already passed.

Hi Iain,
Milton Work who supposedly invented the point count, has had a pronounced effect on
conservative bidding (through the years and generally very conservative for hands which very often, (“man alive, suit fit arrived, especially while holding five”). Making it, that “bridge player bid too late and not enough” and more so when holding a singleton, even in partner’s suit.
