Hi Bobby,
I wondered for a moment (when you said it can’t really cost declarer to duck the CJ) if West could have found an aggressive lead form KJ9xx when the CA would get ruffed. The pips here would be a dead giveaway though – if West had done that (assuming no false card) then there would only be a risk if Est held CQ3 precisely which would be contradicted by East’s C8 on the second round of clubs. As usual, the devil is in the detail!

Staying alive, with “The devil you say” when players all around are doing their share to belong to the winning side, but in spite of that threat, to continue to waltz unafraid into what might be called bridge nirvana.
We all seek that future, but likely only a few can justify achieving it. Why not “I” said the duck and since no one declined, we lived happily ever after. A pipe dream? maybe, but perhaps also “on the way”!
