Hi Everyone,
While the development of the defense, after the opening lead, was directly on target, the choice of a club (major honor or, of course, 4th best, was IMO, doubtful). However, and in truth, yes a heart lead made some sense, but so would a choice of a pointed suit.
As to which one is, at least to me, a total guess which in turn, somewhat signifies this whole discussion. We included this hand, just to show the wide variance, not only by chance, but rather by example, how difficult bridge defense can be, particularly as an opening leader, the position likely to be chosen as the most difficult (in all of bridge) to
get right the most percentage times.
While I cannot say, without an impish grin, that a heart would be my choice, it most likely would not, but I do not like it, since I held only four and wanted more than small cards falling for the high club exchange from me.
Nothing more to add, but hopefully the result from this hand needs to be in mind, in case
we run into what looks to be a similar situation and above all, recognizing it in time, yes, a novel, but unlikely, occurrence.
unlikely occurrence.
always lead a heart against NT… no matter what… who said that?
Hi Peter,
Except on Valentine’s day when we need to give it, not lead it.
Or also when it works, approximately 25% of the time, and knowing a bridge expert who
will lead you to bridge Nirvana, or so he says.
